About the Lecturer:
Vice President Winifred Kok has been an IWC member since 2015 and was elected to serve on the Board in October 2016. One of her tasks as VP each year is to select a charity to be supported by the IWC. With her charity committee she selected in 2016 the charity Navajeevana in Sri Lanka.
About the lecture:
Winifred traveled to Sri Lanka last February on holiday. Coincidentally, the committee’s chosen charity was also in Sri Lanka, so Winifred went to visit the institute which provides
services to children who are disabled and to see first-hand how the IWC donation of € 3,000 could be used.
The films you will be shown provide an insight into the children’s life in Sri Lanka, they show the work staff and volunteers do at Navajeevana. One was made by Winifred’s husband about their visit and the other was provided by the charity itself. Winifred and her husband spoke with the founder and chairperson of the charity who showed them around the home, giving them a chance to talk with the children and their carers.
Winifred would like to express her thanks to the committee who together selected the Navajeevana charity from about six that had been proposed by members. Her thanks also go to Doortje Mol who proposed the charity which she had visited some years ago. Winifred was impressed with the country of Sri Lanka and can recommend a visit.
